Sol 6.1

  1. ورثت محمداً فورثتُ كلا

    ولو غيراً ورثتَ جزءا

    I inherited Muhammad, and thus inherited the whole.

    Had you inherited another, you would have inherited a part.

  2. حصلت على معارفَ مفرداتٍ

    ولم أر لي بعلمِ الله كفؤا

    I attained distinct kinds of knowledge,

    and saw none to equal me in knowledge of God.

  3. لذلك ما اتخذت كلام ربي

    ولا آياته إذ جئن هزؤا

    Therefore I did not take my Lord’s words,

    nor His signs, when they came, as a jest.

  4. فاقبلتِ النفوسُ إليّ عددا

    وقد أنشأتها للعين نشأ

    So souls came to me in numbers,

    and I had brought them forth for the eye.

  5. لقد أخرجت من فلك وأرض

    من العلم الإلهي لهنَّ خبأ

    Indeed, I brought forth from celestial sphere and earth

    a hidden store of divine knowledge for them.

  6. ولولانا لكان الخلقُ عميا

    وبُكما دائماً عوداً وبدءا

    Were it not for us, creation would be blind,

    and forever mute, at every return and beginning.

  7. بنا فتح الإله عيونَ قومٍ

    قربن ومن نأى منهنّ ينأى

    Through us God opened the eyes of a people.

    They drew near; and whoever among them draws away will be far.

  8. وورثناهمُ بالعلم فضلاً

    فكانوا زينة خلُقاً ومرأى

    And through knowledge we made them heirs to excellence,

    so they became an adornment in character and appearance.

  9. وكنا في المصيف لهم نسيما

    كما كنا لهم في البردِ دِفأ

    And in summer we were a breeze for them,

    just as we were warmth for them in the cold.

  10. وضعنا عن ظهورِ القومِ إصرا

    وما حملتْ ظهورُ القوم عبأ

    We lifted a heavy burden from the people’s backs,

    and the people’s backs bore no load.

  11. لاني رحمة نزلت عليهم

    كآنية بماء الغيثِ ملأى

    For I am a mercy that descended upon them,

    like vessels full of rainwater.

  12. فأروينا نفوساً عاطشاتٍ

    فلم تر بعد هذا الشربِ ظمأى

    So we gave thirsty souls their fill,

    and after this draught you saw none thirsty.
