مني بواحدة إن كنت واحدتي

مني بواحدة إن كنت واحدتي

وإنْ شفعتَ فإنَّ الشفع يشفع لي

وإنْ شفعتَ فإنَّ الشفع يشفع لي

Favor me with one, if you are my one and only;

If you are my one, my only one

And if you make it two, the pair will intercede for me.

And if you plead, pleading will avail for me

لو أنَّ لي كلّ ما في الكون من ذَهبٍ

لو أنَّ لي كلّ ما في الكون من ذَهبٍ

أصبحت ذا فاقة للجود غير ملي

If all the gold in the universe were mine,

If all the gold in the universe were mine

I would become needy through generosity, not wealthy.

I'd still be poor, with no capacity to give

وإنَّ ذلك من خلقي ومن شيمي

وإنَّ ذلك من خلقي ومن شيمي

ليس التكرُّم من شأني ومن عملي

ليس التكرُّم من شأني ومن عملي

And indeed, that is part of my nature and my disposition;

For that is my nature and my way

Affecting generosity is neither my way nor my practice.

Generosity is not for me, nor in my acts

لو كان لي أملٌ في كلِّ ما ملكت

لو كان لي أملٌ في كلِّ ما ملكت

يدي لما خانني في جمعه أملي

يدي لما خانني في جمعه أملي

If I had hope in all that was possessed

If I had hopes for all I could possess

By my hand, my hope would not have betrayed me in gathering it.

My hands would not fail me in grasping them

إني لمن خيرِ آباءٍ لنا سلفوا

إني لمن خيرِ آباءٍ لنا سلفوا

لم يُعرفوا قطُّ بالإمساك والبخلِ

لم يُعرفوا قطُّ بالإمساك والبخلِ

Indeed, I descend from the best forefathers who came before us,

I am from the best fathers of old

Who were never known for withholding or miserliness.

Who were never known for withholding and greed

إني ورثتُ الذي في النفس من كرم

إني ورثتُ الذي في النفس من كرم

عن الجدودِ وعن اسلافنا الأول

عن الجدودِ وعن اسلافنا الأول

Indeed, I inherited the generosity within my soul

I have inherited that spirit of nobility

From forefathers and from our earliest ancestors.

From my ancestors and forebears of yore
