تجري الأمور إلى آجالها ركضاً
لذاكfor that reason يفضلsurpasses فيهاamong them بعضُهاsome of them بعضاothers
لذاك يفضل فيها بعضُها بعضا
All things race headlong toward their appointed ends;

ولا يخُّ به نفلاً و فرضا
These are turbans that enwrap the whole cosmos,

لا يعرفُ الذوقَ في ضيق وفي سعة

إلا الذي يقرضُ الله به قرضا
Mystic taste, in straitness and in ease, is known
No one knows the taste, in hardship and in ease,
only to one who thereby lends God a loan.
Except the one who thereby lends God a loan.

Thus, through it, he dwells throughout the length of the Gardens;
Thus, through Him, he dwells along the length of the Gardens.
from Him and from his own soul, he may inhabit their breadth.
From Him and from his own self, he may inhabit the breadth.

None attains glory in this world or the Hereafter
No one attains glory in this world or the Hereafter
who turns water into fire and air into earth.
Who turns water into fire and air into earth.
