By the mountains of the sand-dune of Zarud,

Proud men and lions, struck by graceful maidens’ glances,

Lie slain, though they are sons of the carnage of war.

What are lions beside those black eyes?

Their glances dealt them death—and how lovely

Are those sidelong looks from the daughters of proud men!
