تنوّعت الأحوال فاعترف العبد

تنوّعت الأحوال فاعترف العبد

وكان له القربُ المعين والبعدُ

The states varied, and the servant confessed;

And his were the appointed nearness and distance.

ألم تر أنَّ الله قد وعد الذي

ألم تر أنَّ الله قد وعد الذي

أتاه به صدقاً وقد صدق الوعد

أتاه به صدقاً وقد صدق الوعد

Have you not seen that God has promised the one

Who came to Him with it in truth—and the promise proved true?

فمن كان ذا عهدٍ وفياً بعهده

فمن كان ذا عهدٍ وفياً بعهده

يوفي له بالشرعِ ما قرّر العهد

يوفي له بالشرعِ ما قرّر العهد

So whoever has a covenant, faithful to his covenant,

He fulfills for him, according to the Law, what the covenant prescribed.

فسلم إليه الأمر في كلِّ حالة

فسلم إليه الأمر في كلِّ حالة

فللَّه هذا الأمر من قبلُ من بعدُ

فللَّه هذا الأمر من قبلُ من بعدُ

So surrender the matter to Him in every state;

For this matter belongs to God, before and after.

أنا المؤمن السّجاد أبغي بسجدتي

أنا المؤمن السّجاد أبغي بسجدتي

شهودَ إله قيلَ فيه هو الفرد

شهودَ إله قيلَ فيه هو الفرد

I am the believer, ever prostrating; through my prostration I seek

To witness a God of whom it was said, 'He is the Unique One.'

وما هو إلا الواحد الأحدُ الذي

وما هو إلا الواحد الأحدُ الذي

يقرّبه عقدٌ ويجحده عقدُ

يقرّبه عقدٌ ويجحده عقدُ

And He is none but the One, the Only One, whom

One creed brings near, and another denies.

فمن شاء فليرحل ومن شاء فليقم

فمن شاء فليرحل ومن شاء فليقم

فقد عُرفَ المعنى وقد حُقق القصد

فقد عُرفَ المعنى وقد حُقق القصد

So whoever wishes, let him journey; and whoever wishes, let him remain.

For the meaning is known, and the aim has been realized.
