I shall turn aside from a people who turned away from the Real,

Through us; for they are the solitary ones, called mute.

    ليستوحشن الأقوام في حالة الأنسِ

    They are seared with joy and glory through an unveiling;

The peoples will surely feel estranged in the state of intimacy.

    They soared—indeed, ascended—save a few, for they

Rose beyond affirming transcendence in the Presence of Holiness.

Peace upon a people who gloried in their Lord

Above every being among the jinn and humankind.

They journeyed by night, while night's darkness concealed their passage,

Until they rose beyond the indication given by the Footstool.

An aspiration of mine journeyed by night upon the finest mount,

Of nature, of an unsullied intellect, and of sense.

My inmost secret journeyed by night toward Him to learn His discourse,

Upon a bodily frame already sold for a paltry price.

A transcendent Being took it captive and consoled it,

Beyond definition by constitutive differentia and genus.

His radiance dispels the darkness of the Throne and blindness,

And whatever was said of 'where' and of genus.

Through the existence of constraint, it ceased longing to attain an Absolute,

Beyond confinement through restriction to today and yesterday.
