Today I do not belong to myself.

My reason and my senses have departed.

So I am yearning, for I

behold my origin and my foundation.

So let whoever among you wishes rise,

    or depart as yesterday departed.

    And whenever I see someone

who is of my form and kind,

    my nature recoils from him,

    and my ease leaves me.

The most hateful of creatures to us

is one who presents himself to me as human.

So excuse me, O my enemies:

I am in the narrowest prison.

I am not of a new creation,

newly arisen and beset by confusion.
