إنindeed للهto God عباداًservants كلماwhenever
إن لله عباداً كلما
ذكرواthey remembered اللهGod فنواthey were annihilated فيin ذكرهِremembrance of Him
ذكروا الله فنوا في ذكرهِ
Indeed, God has servants who, whenever
they remember God, are annihilated in remembrance of Him.
وإلىand in addition to هذاthis فهمso they ماnot أمنواthey felt secure
وإلى هذا فهم ما أمنوا
حالduring ذكراهمtheir remembrance بهthrough Him منfrom مكرهHis stratagem
حال ذكراهم به من مكره
Yet even so, they have not felt secure,
during their remembrance through Him, from His stratagem.
يبتغونthey seek الفضلَbounty منهfrom Him عندماwhen
يبتغون الفضلَ منه عندما
شكرواthey thanked المنعمَthe Benefactor حقَّthe due measure of شُكرهgratitude to Him
شكروا المنعمَ حقَّ شُكره
They seek bounty from Him when
they thank the Benefactor as He deserves to be thanked.
زهدrenounced العارفthe gnostic منهمamong them فيin الذيthat which
زهد العارف منهم في الذي
أثبتَaffirmed العقلُreason لهfor him منfrom فكرِهits reflection
أثبتَ العقلُ له من فكرِه
The gnostic among them has renounced what
reason affirmed for him through its reflection
منof إلهa god قرَّرconfirmed الكشفَunveiling لهfor him
من إله قرَّر الكشفَ له
إنهthat He المعبودُthe One worshipped حالُin the state of نكرهhis nonrecognition
إنه المعبودُ حالُ نكره
as a god; unveiling confirmed for him
that He is the One worshipped in his state of unknowing.
يظهرappears الحقُّthe Real لهto him فيin صحوهhis sobriety
يظهر الحقُّ له في صحوه
عينthe very same as ماwhat أثبتهhe affirmed it فيin سكرهhis intoxication
عين ما أثبته في سكره
The Real appears to him in his sobriety
as precisely what he affirmed in his intoxication.
