    حنيني إلى الشمسِ المنيرةِ والفجرِ

    My longing is for the night that came to me, journeying by night;

My longing is for the radiant sun and the dawn.

For by day I am favored with its pair,

And when it comes at night, I am favored with the unpaired.

The Real, the Most High, has indeed sworn by His night,

And by dawn—and following in this is for one endowed with reason—

That the one whose mention has appeared in the Reminder,

Ascribed to us, finds no comfort in reward.

If I am among a people and am not their very essence,

And their secret is my secret, and their open speech my open speech,

Then I am not faithful among them; and indeed I,

If people scrutinize my state, am surely in a state of loss.
