والشرعُand the revealed Law أولىmore worthy بماof what أولىit bestowed وأقصدُهُand I turn to it
Through the revealed Law I know what rational proof denies;
The Law is worthier of what it bestows, and I turn to it.

The 'where', the 'how', and all the bodily members,
Together with the faculties—with these I extol and praise Him—
لهto Him كماas جاءit came فيin الشَّرعthe Law المطهرpurified منof

Are His, as stated in the Law, purified of
The straying of intellects and any fancy that limits Him.

وحرمand it forbade الفكرreflection فيon ذاتٍan Essence يعبدهone worships Him
For that reason it brought faith that affirms Him,
And forbade reflection on the Essence of Him one worships.
أهلُpeople العقولِof intellect عصوهthey disobeyed Him فهيso they are زيِّهمُtheir garb
بماthrough what تولِّدهthey produce والكشفُand unveiling يفسدهrefutes it
People of intellect disobeyed Him; their intellects are their garb,
Through what they produce, though unveiling refutes it.
فظنهاso their supposition أنهاthat they فيin كلِّevery ماthing نظرتthey considered

They suppose that, in everything they have considered,
They have attained the truth, and rational proof supports it.
