Indeed, we have a sign in Saba,

known to the foremost and the moderate:

when spirits are struck senseless by His revelation

and find nothing on which to lean,

until, when terror is lifted from their heart,

it is asked, “What was said?” They say, “The One.”

So strive to seek its wisdom

through remembrance, not thought, until you find

who revealed to you that which

struck your spirit senseless before your body.

Like Moses, when He revealed Himself to him,

in His essence—the Lord who does not beget.

    فابحث على حكمته واتئد

    Thus his aim yielded him nothing;

so seek His wisdom, and be unhurried.

And do not—no—be a seeker in what you see,

relying on your reason without guidance.

For the revealed Law alone is the path of guidance:

rely upon it; desire nothing else.

Whoever knows the meaning I have fashioned

in this verse of ours is the moderate one.

For he is the best in our judgment:

he proceeds according to His wisdom, going no further.

    His waterwheel turns through wisdom,

so its water irrigates the whole land.

Thus He mentions him in the middle,

and the middle is best in matters of belief.

The Qur’an came with this in praise of us,

and it is the strongest support for whoever seeks.

So whoever says, “Make its ṣād vowelless for us,”

I tell him, “Both this and that are attested.”
