صفة الإله لكلِّ شخصٍ مبتغى

في كلِّ موجودٍ تواضعَ أو طغا

في كلِّ موجودٍ تواضعَ أو طغا

God's attribute is sought by every person,

in every being, whether humble or transgressive.

والمبتغى المعتوبُ في أعراضه

والمبتغى المعتوبُ في أعراضه

عن نفسِه وقبوله لمن ابتغى

عن نفسِه وقبوله لمن ابتغى

And the one sought is reproached for his turning away

from himself, and for accepting whoever sought

منه القيادُ لربه طمعاً به

منه القيادُ لربه طمعاً به

من أجل أتباع له لما بغى

من أجل أتباع له لما بغى

from him submission to his Lord, out of desire for him,

for the sake of followers of his, for what he sought.

فيعود إكسيراً يردُّ حديدهم

فيعود إكسيراً يردُّ حديدهم

للفضةِ البيضا إذا سَقْبٌ رغا

للفضةِ البيضا إذا سَقْبٌ رغا

So he becomes an elixir that turns their iron

to white silver when a male camel-calf bellows.

فكذا تعين قصدُه فيما جرى

فكذا تعين قصدُه فيما جرى

وهو المراد وذاك عين المبتغى

وهو المراد وذاك عين المبتغى

Thus his purpose took definite form in what occurred;

and he is the one intended, and that is the very thing sought.
