Blessed is God! Is anyone in the dwelling

Other than the one who is unknown and intelligible?

God knows that the dwelling is empty,

And the blossoms smile, and the garden is covered with dew.

And the rain pours down, and the secret is awaited,

Toward the one who is proved to be an effect.

And by God, no soul has alighted in its courtyard

Except the one who is signified to discerning minds,

Other than me and other than the one who keeps following me.

So unveiling is mine, and it is transmitted to the followers.

Union is severed, and the opposite is joined.

And in knowledge lie bewilderment and misguidance.

I did not originate it or invent it.

Rather, revelation concerning it came from the All-Merciful.

He confirmed through it a report containing forms

Of the Real, for which the sacred Law gives no detailed account.

So I seek neither departure from them nor a substitute.

And alteration and transformation have bewildered the intellect.

The intellect has fettered its ruler with absoluteness.

And the sacred Law has set him free, and in it lies a rationale.

Were it not for his transformation, you would not know his form.

And how can a matter subject to alteration be apprehended?
