بشرىglad tidings منfrom اللهGod الكريمthe Generous أتتcame بهاwith it
بشرى من الله الكريم أتت بها
أرواحُspirits أملاكٍof angels منamong الأمناءِthe trustworthy
أرواحُ أملاكٍ من الأمناءِ
Glad tidings from God, the Generous, were brought
By spirits of angels among the trustworthy,
لرجالٍfor men أهلِpossessors of ولايةٍsainthood معلومةknown
لرجالٍ أهلِ ولايةٍ معلومة
معصومةِinviolate الأنحاءِthe regions والأرجاءِand the reaches
معصومةِ الأنحاءِ والأرجاءِ
For men possessed of a known sainthood,
Inviolate in its regions and reaches.
لعنايةowing to care سبقتcame beforehand لهمfor them منbecause of صدقهمtheir sincerity
لعناية سبقت لهم من صدقهم
حصلواthey attained بهاthrough it فيin رتبةِthe rank of النبآءthe prophets
حصلوا بها في رتبةِ النبآء
By care already bestowed on them for their sincerity,
They thereby attained the rank of prophets,
بوراثةٍthrough an inheritance مرعيةٍwatched over محفوظةpreserved
بوراثةٍ مرعيةٍ محفوظة
لرجالٍfor men أهلِpossessors of رسالةٍa mission ووَلاءِand allegiance
لرجالٍ أهلِ رسالةٍ ووَلاءِ
Through an inheritance watched over and preserved,
For men endowed with a mission and allegiance.
نالواthey attained بهاthrough it حسناهHis finest reward منbecause of إحسانهمtheir goodness
نالوا بها حسناه من إحسانهم
فيin ساعةٍan hour مشهودةٍwitnessed غرَّاءradiant
في ساعةٍ مشهودةٍ غرَّاء
Through it they won His finest reward for their goodness,
In an hour witnessed and radiant.
ورثواthey inherited النبيَّthe Prophet تحققاًthrough realization وتخلقاًand cultivation of character
ورثوا النبيَّ تحققاً وتخلقاً
بمعالمthrough the landmarks of الكلماتِthe words والأسماءِand the names
بمعالم الكلماتِ والأسماءِ
They inherited the Prophet through realization and the cultivation of character,
Through the landmarks of the words and names.
فهمso they are الذينthose يقالit is said فيهمof them إنهمthat they
فهم الذين يقال فيهم إنهم
أبناؤهمtheir sons وهمُand they منamong الآباءthe fathers
أبناؤهم وهمُ من الآباء
So they are those of whom it is said that they
Are their sons, though they are among the fathers.
إنَّindeed النبوةَprophethood يستمرُّcontinues وجودُهاits existence
إنَّ النبوةَ يستمرُّ وجودُها
دنياin this world وآخرةًand in the hereafter بلاwithout استيفاءexhaustion
دنيا وآخرةً بلا استيفاء
Indeed, prophethood continues to exist
In this world and the hereafter, without exhaustion.
ونبوّةُand prophethood التشريعِlawgiving أُغلقwas closed بابهاits door
ونبوّةُ التشريعِ أُغلق بابها
فلذاكso for that reason حازواthey attained رتبةَthe rank of السمراءthe companions in night converse
فلذاك حازوا رتبةَ السمراء
And the door of lawgiving prophethood has been closed;
Thus they attained the rank of companions in night converse.
فهمso they are الملوكُthe kings منthose who سواهمare other than them سوقةcommoners
فهم الملوكُ من سواهم سوقة
لاnot يشهدونthey witness مواقعَthe stations of الأشياءthings
لا يشهدون مواقعَ الأشياء
So they are the kings; those besides them are commoners,
Who do not behold the stations of things.
نظمواthey versified حديثَthe discourse of سميرهمtheir night-conversation companion فأنالهمso he bestowed on them
نظموا حديثَ سميرهم فأنالهم
نظمَthe composition of الحديثِthe discourse فصاحةthe eloquence of البلغاءthe eloquent
نظمَ الحديثِ فصاحة البلغاء
They versified their night-companion's discourse, and he granted them
The art of composing speech—the eloquence of the eloquent.
فهمso they are الضنائنthe cherished ones فيin حفاظٍsafekeeping مصاونprotective
فهم الضنائن في حفاظٍ مصاون
منfrom حرّهاits heat جرمa body بدارin an abode of بلاءtrial
من حرّها جرم بدار بلاء
So they are the cherished ones, in safekeeping that shields
Their bodies from its heat in an abode of trial,
حتىuntil إذاwhen انقلبواthey passed over إلىto الأخرىthe next life بدتappeared
حتى إذا انقلبوا إلى الأخرى بدت
أعلامُهمtheir banners بسَناwith radiance لهمbelonging to them وسَناءِand exalted glory
أعلامُهم بسَنا لهم وسَناءِ
Until, when they pass to the next life, there appear
Their banners, with radiance and glory of their own.
