الحمدpraise للهto God الذيwho أفضلاbestowed bounty
الحمد لله الذي أفضلا
بماwith what بهwith it أنعمbestowed blessings فيamong خلقهِHis creation
بما به أنعم في خلقهِ
Praise be to God, who bestowed bounty
Praise be to God, the Bestower
With the blessings He bestowed among His creation.
Of the blessings He has bestowed upon His creation
فالجودُfor generosity وand الأفضالbounties منهfrom Him علىupon
فالجودُ و الأفضال منه على
عبادِهHis servants العاصينthe disobedient منamong خلقهHis creation
عبادِه العاصين من خلقه
For generosity and bounty come from Him to
Bounty and favor are from Him
His disobedient servants among His creation.
Upon His disobedient servants among His creatures
يعلمهknows Him العالمُthe learned one منthrough أوجهaspects
يعلمه العالمُ من أوجه
معرفةknowledge العارفِthe knower منfrom أفقهhis horizon
معرفة العارفِ من أفقه
The learned one knows Him through aspects
The knowledgeable know Him through
Of the knower's knowledge, from his horizon.
The gnostic's understanding and discernment
وكلُّand everyone منwho يهبطdescends فيin علمهhis knowledge
وكلُّ من يهبط في علمه
بهof Him يرىsees ذلكthat منas part of حقِّهhis due
به يرى ذلك من حقِّه
And whoever descends in his knowledge
And all who delve into His knowledge
Of Him sees that as part of his due.
See that from His right
وجامعُand the gatherer of الكلِّall حضيضٌa nadir بهin it
وجامعُ الكلِّ حضيضٌ به
أدرجهplaced him الرحمنthe All-Merciful فيin حقِّهhis due
أدرجه الرحمن في حقِّه
And he who encompasses all is at the nadir, where
The Comprehensor of all, a lowly one through Him
The All-Merciful has set him in his rightful place.
The Merciful included him in His right
فكلُّso all ماthat which يجريcomes to pass منof أحكامهHis decrees
فكلُّ ما يجري من أحكامه
فإنهاfor they indeed تجريcome to pass علىin وفقهaccord with Him
فإنها تجري على وفقه
So whatever comes to pass of His decrees—
So whatever rulings proceed from Him
Indeed, they come to pass in accord with Him.
They proceed as He has disposed
قدalready جمعَgathered العالمthe world فيin حشرهHis gathering
قد جمعَ العالم في حشره
ليسألto ask الصادقَthe truthful one عنabout صدقهhis truthfulness
ليسأل الصادقَ عن صدقه
He has gathered the world in His assembly,
He will gather the scholars on the Day of Resurrection
To ask the truthful one about his truthfulness.
To question the Truthful about his truthfulness
فإنfor if أعادوهthey refer it back عليهto Him فهمthen they
فإن أعادوه عليه فهم
ممنamong those who يريshows الإشراقradiance منfrom شرقهHis east
ممن يري الإشراق من شرقه
For if they refer it back to Him, they are
If they repeat it back to Him they are
Among those who show radiance from His east.
Of those who see the dawn from its daybreak
أوor ادَّعواthey claim فيهconcerning it لأعيانهمfor their individual essences
أو ادَّعوا فيه لأعيانهم
والمدَّعيand the claimant يصدقُis truthful فيin نطقهhis speech
والمدَّعي يصدقُ في نطقه
Or claim it for their own individual essences,
Or if they claim rights for themselves
And the claimant is truthful in his speech.
The claimant speaks the truth in his claim
وكلهمand all of them يصدقُis truthful فيin حالهhis state
وكلهم يصدقُ في حاله
وكلهمand all of them يأكلeats منof رزقِهHis sustenance
وكلهم يأكل من رزقِه
And each of them is truthful in his state,
And all of them speak truthfully in their state
And each of them eats of His sustenance.
And all eat of His provision
ماnot حازattained منهمamong them أحدٌanyone كلهall of Him
ما حاز منهم أحدٌ كله
بلْrather كلهمall of them منهof Him علىupon شقِّهhis share
بلْ كلهم منه على شقِّه
None of them has attained Him in full;
None of them has attained the whole
Rather, each of them has his share of Him.
Rather, all of them are dependent on Him
الجنسُthe genus فيin البدرِthe full moon وفيand in شمسهHis sun
الجنسُ في البدرِ وفي شمسه
ونجمهand His star والفصلُand the differentia فيin برقهHis lightning
ونجمه والفصلُ في برقه
The genus is in the full moon and in His sun,
The species is in the full moon, its sun
And His star; the differentia is in His lightning.
Its stars, and the seasons in its lightning
ماnot يعرفُknows الحقَّthe Real سوىexcept شاربa drinker
ما يعرفُ الحقَّ سوى شارب
يراهsees Him فيin الصفوpurity وفيand in رتقهHis closure
يراه في الصفو وفي رتقه
None knows the Real except a drinker
None knows the Truth but the drinker
Who sees Him in purity and in His closure.
Who sees Him in serenity and in turmoil
يعرفهknows Him العالمthe learned one فيat حشرهمtheir gathering
يعرفه العالم في حشرهم
يومَthe day of وقوفِstanding الناسthe people منthrough رفقهHis gentleness
يومَ وقوفِ الناس من رفقه
The learned one knows Him at their gathering,
The scholars will know Him on the Day they stand
On the day people stand, through His gentleness.
On the day the people stand through His gentleness
