ما لمنْ أبصرني

Whoever has seen me has nothing

What I see in others

but what I see.

Is what I see in myself

فله مني الذي

فله مني الذي

بعد ذا أذكرُه

بعد ذا أذكرُه

So he has from me what

What comes from me

I shall mention after this.

Is what I recall

شجي قام به

شجي قام به

وأنا أستُره

وأنا أستُره

A grieving one arose through him,

My passion moved me

while I conceal him.

And I conceal it

بل هو المعنى الذي

بل هو المعنى الذي

لم أزل أظهره

لم أزل أظهره

Rather, he is the meaning that

Rather it's the meaning

I have never ceased to reveal.

I've always revealed

وبدا منه لهم

وبدا منه لهم

خبرٌ أكبره

خبرٌ أكبره

And from him there appeared to them

And from it came to them

a report that I revere.

News I exalt

وأبى العقلُ الذي

وأبى العقلُ الذي

ما إلي مخبره

ما إلي مخبره

And reason rejected that

But the intellect that

whose report is not directed to me.

Doesn't inform me

وإن إيمانَ الورى

وإن إيمانَ الورى

في الورى معبَرُهْ

في الورى معبَرُهْ

And indeed, the faith of humankind

Is the faith of creation

has its passage among humankind.

Its expression

فبه أسمعه

فبه أسمعه

وبه أبصرهْ

وبه أبصرهْ

Through him, then, I hear him,

Through it I hear

and through him I see him.

And through it I see

قدمي ساعية

قدمي ساعية

وهي بي تظهره

وهي بي تظهره

My foot is moving,

My feet run

and through me it reveals him.

And through me appear

ويدي باطشة

ويدي باطشة

فأنا مصدرُه

فأنا مصدرُه

And my hand strikes,

My hands strike

so I am his source.

So I'm the source

فاكتم الأمر الذي

فاكتم الأمر الذي

قلتُ لا تشهره

قلتُ لا تشهره

So conceal the matter of which

So conceal the matter

I said, 'Do not make it public.'

I said don't reveal

طابَ ذوقاً عندنا

طابَ ذوقاً عندنا

جملة مخبرِه

جملة مخبرِه

Sweet to us in the tasting

Pleasant to our taste

was the whole of his report,

Is the whole of its report

مثلَ ما طابَ لنا

مثلَ ما طابَ لنا

خبراً أكبرُه

خبراً أكبرُه

just as it was sweet to us

Like what was pleasant to us

as a report that I revere:

Of greater news

أنه ليس بهو

أنه ليس بهو

والهَو لا يحصره

والهَو لا يحصره

that he is not 'He',

That it's not Him

and 'He' does not encompass him.

And fancy cannot limit Him

فإذا قلت أنا

فإذا قلت أنا

فأنا أشعره

فأنا أشعره

So when I say 'I',

So when I say "I"

I make him aware

I express Him

أنني لستُ أنا

أنني لستُ أنا

وأنا مظهرُه

وأنا مظهرُه

that I am not 'I',

That I'm not I

while I am his locus of manifestation.

And I'm His manifestation

إنّ ذا الهو المقا

إنّ ذا الهو المقا

م الذي يبهره

م الذي يبهره

Indeed, this 'He' is the sta-

That imagined existence

-tion that dazzles him.

Which dazzles him

إن تجلى بأنا

إن تجلى بأنا

فأنا أفقره

فأنا أفقره

If he manifests as 'I',

If it manifests through "I"

then I make him needy.

I impoverish it

أو تجليتُ به

أو تجليتُ به

وهو لا ينكره

وهو لا ينكره

Or if I manifest through him,

Or if I manifest through it

while he does not deny it,

And it doesn't deny it

قام بي نعتُ الغنى

قام بي نعتُ الغنى

وأنا أنكره

وأنا أنكره

the attribute of self-sufficiency arose in me,

The attribute of Richness stood by me

yet I deny it.

And I deny it

ثم عن هذا أو ذا

ثم عن هذا أو ذا

علمنا يكبرُه

علمنا يكبرُه

Then, above this or that,

Then about this or that

our knowledge exalts him.

Our knowledge aggrandizes Him
