ولما جَلَّ عتبي حلَّ غيبي

ولما جَلَّ عتبي حلَّ غيبي

على عيني فصيَّره عديما

على عيني فصيَّره عديما

And when my reproach grew great, my unseen self descended

When my reproach was unveiled, my absence solved,

Upon my very being, reducing it to nothing.

Upon my eyes, so it made them non-existent,

وعند شهودِ رَبِّي دبَّ حيٌ

وعند شهودِ رَبِّي دبَّ حيٌ

على قلبي فغادره سليما

على قلبي فغادره سليما

And as I witnessed my Lord, a living being crept

And with the witnessing of my Lord, life crept

Over my heart and left it sound.

Upon my heart, so it left it unharmed,

ولما فاح زهري هبّ سري

ولما فاح زهري هبّ سري

على نوري فصيَّره هشيما

على نوري فصيَّره هشيما

And when my blossom gave off fragrance, my secret blew

And when my flower smelt, my secret blew,

Over my light, turning it to dry stubble.

Upon my light, so it made it destroyed,

ولما اضطر أهلي لاح نارٌ

ولما اضطر أهلي لاح نارٌ

من الرحمنِ صيَّرني كليما

من الرحمنِ صيَّرني كليما

And when my family was distressed, a fire appeared

And when my family was forced, a fire flashed,

From the All-Merciful, making me one He addressed.

From the Merciful, so it made me a confidant,

ولما كنت مختاراً حبيباً

ولما كنت مختاراً حبيباً

وكان بُراق سيري بي كريما

وكان بُراق سيري بي كريما

And when I was chosen and beloved,

And when I was a chosen, beloved one,

And the Buraq of my journey was generous to me,

And my travel carrier was generous with me,

مطوتُ ولم أبالِ بكلِّ أهلٍ

مطوتُ ولم أبالِ بكلِّ أهلٍ

تركتُ فعدتُ رحماناً رحيما

تركتُ فعدتُ رحماناً رحيما

I journeyed, heedless of every household

I died but did not care for any family,

I left behind, and returned all-merciful, compassionate.

I left so I returned a Merciful, Compassionate One,

وكنت إلى رجيم البعد نجماً

وكنت إلى رجيم البعد نجماً

دُوين العرشِ وقّاداً رجيما

دُوين العرشِ وقّاداً رجيما

And to the outcast of remoteness I was a star,

And I was to the far enemy a star,

Just beneath the Throne, blazing and hurled as a missile.

Revolving the Throne and a firm guide,

ولما كنتُ مرضياً حَصوراً

ولما كنتُ مرضياً حَصوراً

وكان أمامَ وقتِ الشمسِ ميما

وكان أمامَ وقتِ الشمسِ ميما

And when I was well-pleasing and chaste,

And when I was a content, restricted one,

And it was a mīm before the sun's time,

And it was before the time of the sun directing,

لحظت الأمر يسري من قريبٍ

لحظت الأمر يسري من قريبٍ

على كُفرٍ يصيِّره رميما

على كُفرٍ يصيِّره رميما

I observed the command flowing from nearby

I glanced the matter coming from near,

Over unbelief, reducing it to crumbled dust.

Upon blasphemy, making it disgraced,

وكنتُ به لفردٍ بعدَ ستٍ

وكنتُ به لفردٍ بعدَ ستٍ

لعامِ العقدِ قوَّاماً عليما

لعامِ العقدِ قوَّاماً عليما

And through it, for an odd one after six, I was

And I was after six for one year

Steadfast and knowing for the year of the decade.

Of the decade, all-knowing and powerful,

فلو أظهرت معنى الدهرِ فيه

فلو أظهرت معنى الدهرِ فيه

لأعجزت العبارةَ والرقوما

لأعجزت العبارةَ والرقوما

For if I revealed the meaning of time within it,

So if I revealed the meaning of time in it,

I would baffle expression and written signs.

Expression and numbers would be disabled,

ولكني سترّتُ لكونِ أمري

ولكني سترّتُ لكونِ أمري

محيطاً في شهادتِه عظيما

محيطاً في شهادتِه عظيما

But I concealed it, since my affair is

But I concealed it for my matter was

All-encompassing in its manifestation, immense.

Encompassing in its great witnessing,

فغطَّيتُ الأمور بكل كشفٍ

فغطَّيتُ الأمور بكل كشفٍ

لعين صارَ بالتقوى سليما

لعين صارَ بالتقوى سليما

So I veiled affairs with every unveiling

So I covered the matters with any disclosure,

For a being that became sound through piety.

To an eye that became unharmed with piety.
