والفضلand preeminence للسابقِto the foremost فيin كلevery حالstate
والفضل للسابقِ في كل حال
بالفضلthrough grace حازواthey won قصبthe reed السَّبقِof victory in the race
بالفضل حازوا قصب السَّبقِ
And preeminence belongs to the foremost in every state.
The virtue is for the first in every case
Through grace they won the reed of victory.
Through virtue they attained the forefront
وماand it is not لوسعwithin the capacity of الخلقcreation أنto يبلغواthey attain
وما لوسع الخلق أن يبلغوا
تسابقَthe race between المخلوقِthe creature والحقِّand the Real
تسابقَ المخلوقِ والحقِّ
And it is beyond creation's power to match
And it was not possible for people to reach
the race between the creature and the Real.
The race of the created and the Truth
لماwhen تجارتthey raced one another نحوtoward أنفسsouls
لما تجارت نحو أنفس
اقعدهاHe seated them فيin مقعدthe seat الصدقof truth
اقعدها في مقعد الصدق
When they raced toward souls,
When they turned towards themselves
He seated them in the seat of truth.
He seated them in the abode of truthfulness
فعمَّso encompassed كلَّall الخلقcreation أفضالُهHis bounties
فعمَّ كلَّ الخلق أفضالُه
ولمand did not يعمextend universally الحقthe Real للخلقِِto creation
ولم يعم الحق للخلقِِ
So His bounties encompassed all creation,
So His virtues encompassed all creatures
yet the Real did not extend to all creation.
But the Truth did not encompass people
أبدىHe revealed لهمto them مشهدَهHis manifestation بارقاًflashing
أبدى لهم مشهدَه بارقاً
كلمحةِlike a blink العينِof the eye أوor البرقlightning
كلمحةِ العينِ أو البرق
He revealed His manifestation to them in a flash,
He showed them His manifest vision
like the blink of an eye or lightning.
Like a glance of the eye or lightning
وعندهand in His presence خرُّواthey fell down لهbefore Him سُجَّداًprostrate
وعنده خرُّوا له سُجَّداً
لكنbut يحوزواthey gain نظرةa glimpse الصعقof the swoon
لكن يحوزوا نظرة الصعق
And in His presence they fell prostrate before Him,
And before Him they fell prostrate
yet they gain a glimpse of the swoon.
But to attain the gaze of awe
منwhoever فازfinds success بالأسماءthrough the Names فيin خلقهHis creation
من فاز بالأسماء في خلقه
قدindeed فازhas found success بالذاتthrough the Essence وبالخلقand through creation
قد فاز بالذات وبالخلق
Whoever finds success through the Names in His creation
Whoever attained the Names in His creation
has indeed found success through the Essence and through creation.
