Ah, O breeze of the wind, tell the oryxes of Najd
Oh breeze of the wind, convey to Najd's dwellers
that I remain faithful to the pledge you know.
That I stand by what you know of the covenant
وَقُلand say لِفَتاةِto the maiden of الحَيِّthe tribe مَوعِدُناour meeting-place الحِمىthe protected pasture

And tell the maiden of the tribe: our meeting-place is the protected pasture,
And tell the damsel of the quarter my tryst is
early on Saturday morning, beside the hills of Najd,
On Saturday morn, by the mound of Najd
عَلىon الرَبُوَّةِthe knoll الحَمراءِred مِنfrom جانِبِthe side of الضَوىal-Dawa

on the red knoll beside al-Dawa,
On the red hillock, from the side of Al-Dhawa
and to the right of al-Aflaj and the solitary landmark.
And from the right of the streams and unique flag
فَإِنfor if كانَis حَقّاًtrue ماwhat تَقولُyou say وَعِندَهاand she has
إِلَيَّtoward me مِنَof الشَوقِlonging المُبَرِّحِtormenting ماas much as عِنديI have
For if what you say is true, and she has
If what she says be true, and longing for me
for me as much tormenting longing as I have
Equals mine, which gladdens, meet at noonday heat
إِلَيهاtoward her فَفيthen in حَرِّthe heat of الظَهيرَةِnoon نَلتَقيwe meet
بِخَيمَتِهاin her tent سِرّاًsecretly عَلىin accordance with أَصدَقِthe truest الوَعدِpromise
for her, then in the heat of noon we shall meet
By her tent secretly, true to the vow
in her tent, in secret, in keeping with the truest promise.
There to share what of love is ours, and of
فَتُلقيthen she lays bare وَنُلقيand we lay bare ماwhat نُلاقيwe endure مِنَfrom الهَوىlove
وَمِنand from شِدَّةِthe severity of البَلوىaffliction وَمِنand from أَلَمِthe pain of الوَجدِardent longing
Then she will lay bare, and we will lay bare, what we endure from love,
Intense agony, and pain of ardour
and from the severity of affliction and from the pain of ardent longing.
Are they mirages, dreams, fancied tidings
أَأَضغاثُare these jumbles of أَحلامٍdreams أَبُشرىis it good news from مَنامَةٍa dream
أَنُطقُis it the speech of زَمانٍa time كانَwas فيin نُطقِهِits speech سَعديmy good fortune
Are these confused dreams, or glad tidings from a dream?
I recount, an era whose speech brought joy
Or the speech of a time in whose speech lay my good fortune?
Perchance He who steered wishes will steer them
لَعَلَّperhaps الَّذيthe one who ساقَbrought الأَمانيthe wishes يَسوقُهاwill bring them
عَياناًin plain sight فَيُهديso offers رَوضُهاtheir garden ليto me جَنىa harvest of الوَردِroses
Perhaps the one who brought these wishes will bring them
To reality, and its garden's rose bestow
before my eyes, so their garden offers me a harvest of roses.
