إنيindeed I اتخذتُI have taken إلىto ذيthe Possessor of العرشthe Throne معراجاa ladder of ascent
إني اتخذتُ إلى ذي العرش معراجا
فإنfor indeed ليfor me شرعةa sacred law منهfrom Him ومنهاجاand a path
فإن لي شرعة منه ومنهاجا
I have taken a ladder of ascent to the Lord of the Throne.
I have taken the Ascent to the Lord of the Throne
For I have from Him a sacred law and a path,
For I have a law from Him and a way
علىthrough لسانِthe tongue of رسولٍa messenger منهfrom Him ألبسنيclothed me
على لسانِ رسولٍ منه ألبسني
بهthrough him المهيمنُthe Guardian فيduring إسرائهhis night journey تاجاa crown
به المهيمنُ في إسرائه تاجا
Through the tongue of a messenger from Him; I was invested
On the tongue of a Messenger He adorned me
By the Guardian, through him, on his night journey, with a crown.
With it the Guardian in His night journey crowned me
إذاwhen رأيتyou see وفودَthe delegations of اللهGod قدalready وصلواthey have arrived
إذا رأيت وفودَ الله قد وصلوا
يأتونthey come to دينthe religion of الإلهGod الحقِّthe true أفواجاin throngs
يأتون دين الإله الحقِّ أفواجا
When you see that God's delegations have arrived,
When you see the delegations of Allah have arrived
Coming in throngs to the religion of the true God,
Coming to the religion of the True God in droves
فاستغفرthen seek forgiveness from اللهGod واطلبand ask for عفوهHis pardon كرماًas a gracious gift
فاستغفر الله واطلب عفوه كرماً
وكنand be فقيراًpoor إلىto الرحمنthe All-Merciful محتاجاin need
وكن فقيراً إلى الرحمن محتاجا
Then seek God's forgiveness and ask His pardon as a gracious gift,
Then seek Allah's forgiveness and benevolently request His pardon
And be poor, in need of the All-Merciful.
And be a pauper to the Merciful, needy
معاشرO assemblies of الناسpeople إنَّindeed اللهGod أنبتكمHe caused you to grow
معاشر الناس إنَّ الله أنبتكم
منfrom أرضهHis earth نطفاdrops of seed فيin النشىءformation أمشاجاmingled
من أرضه نطفا في النشىء أمشاجا
O people, God has caused you to grow
O people, indeed Allah originated you
From His earth, as mingled drops of seed in your formation.
As drops in the wombs intermingled
وثمand then أولجكمHe made you enter لماwhen أماتكمُHe caused you to die
وثم أولجكم لما أماتكمُ
فيهاinto it لأمرfor a purpose أرادَwilled الحقَّthe Real إيلاجاa bringing inside
فيها لأمر أرادَ الحقَّ إيلاجا
And then He made you enter, when He caused you to die,
Then inserted you after He makes you die
Into it, for a purpose for which the Real willed your entry.
In it for a command the Truth desired inserted
وقدand indeed علمتI have learned بأنَّthat اللهGod يخرجكمHe will bring you forth
وقد علمت بأنَّ الله يخرجكم
بعدafter المماتِdeath منfrom الجداثِthe graves إخراجاa bringing forth
بعد المماتِ من الجداثِ إخراجا
And I have learned that God will bring you forth
And you knew that Allah brings you out
After death, out of the graves,
After death from the graves extracted
منfrom بعدafter إنزالهHis sending down منfor أجلthe sake of نشأتكمyour formation
من بعد إنزاله من أجل نشأتكم
ماءwater كمثلِlike منيّthe semen of الناسِhumankind ثجّاجاpouring in torrents
ماء كمثلِ منيّ الناسِ ثجّاجا
After His sending down, for your re-creation,
After sending down for the sake of your growth
Water like human semen, pouring in torrents.
Water like the seminal fluid of people squirted
وصيَّرand He made الناسَhumankind اقساماdivisions منوَّعةvaried
وصيَّر الناسَ اقساما منوَّعة
ثلاثةthree فيin كتابِthe Book of اللهGod أزواجاgroups
ثلاثة في كتابِ الله أزواجا
And He made humankind into varied classes,
And He diversified people into distinguished groups
Three groups in the Book of God.
Three in the Book of Allah paired
لوif أنَّthat ماwhat عندناwe have منof علمِknowledge of صانعناour Maker
لو أنَّ ما عندنا من علمِ صانعنا
يكونwere فيin رهجِthe dust of السواقthe markets ماnot راجاwould sell
يكون في رهجِ السواق ما راجا
If the knowledge we have of our Maker
If what we know of our Maker
Were amid the dust of the markets, it would not sell.
Would be in the perception of reasoners roused
