Generosity is more fitting for Him, and poverty more fitting for us.

So be through Him; be only for Him and for us.

There is nothing in existence but poverty, and it has no

opposite they call, in technical usage, self-sufficiency.

Where is self-sufficiency, when in my very essence I receive what

He wishes to bring into being, while the cosmos comes from me myself?

So the cosmos comes from me and from Him—consider this wonder.

What I have said already existed before the “I.”

Through Him I am like what I set forth as an example.

And indeed He, through the existence of the emancipated, is through us.

We have become bound by a matter; there is no release for us

from it; and what comes from Him appeared from my two modes of being.

Like an outcome, the cosmos arose from nonexistence,

and did not arise from existence—bearing assurance.

The very reality of coupling appeared through unveiling; he witnesses it

in its two forms, but God used a euphemism.

Our earth has shone with the light of its Creator,

like the soul from Him, when He fashioned the body for it.

And the soul in the cosmos comes from a body and from a breath

God bestowed; hence we explained its cause.

So I have never ceased to seek Him for generosity to exist.

Thus the cause of poverty in us is the cause of time.

Had He not been, I would not have been; had I not seen, He would not have seen.

So the cosmos comes from me through Him, and knowledge from Him through us.

Were it not for the Prophet—what he brought you is true—

a clear text he recounted for us in the Qur'an,

in the surah of the radiant Prophets (Al-Anbiya), in Zumar,

he brought a particle of non-occurrence, clearly and openly.

This is the proof of its possibility; and therefore,

if He willed, there would be a choosing by Him, from Him, for us.

And were it of the loins, it would come from a body

within the eye's pupil; no deception was perceived through it.

He indeed revealed Himself to a people in their sleep,

so they beheld Him directly—a beautiful sight—

like meanings that beautification has embodied,

like knowledge that he drinks in his sleep as milk.
