لماwhen نظرتI looked إلىat مجموعِthe sum of أحواليmy states
علمتُI learned ماwhat لمnot يكنbe يخطرoccur علىto باليmy mind
When I looked upon the sum of all my states,
When I looked at the sum of my states,
I knew what had never crossed my mind.
I learned what had never crossed my mind.
منيfrom myself علمتُI learned الذيthat which فيin الكونthe cosmos منof صورforms
وماand whatever بهin it صورforms فالكلُّfor all أمثاليmy likenesses
From myself I came to know the forms within the cosmos,
From myself I learned the forms within the cosmos,
and all the forms it holds are likenesses of me.
and whatever contains forms—for all are likenesses of me.
يرانHe sees me بيthrough me مثلَlike ماwhat أنىthat I أراهI see Him بهthrough Him
نصّاًa text بنصِّthrough a text وأشكالاًand forms بأشكالِthrough forms
He sees me through me, just as I see Him through Him,
He sees me through me, just as I see Him through Him,
text for text, and forms for forms.
text through text, and forms through forms.
فكلماso whenever قمتُI subsisted فيin شيءٍa thing يقومُsubsists بهthrough Him
كأنهas though He فيin الذيthat which يبدوappears منof أشكاليmy forms
Whenever I take my stand in something, He stands through it,
So whenever I subsist in something that subsists through Him,
as though He were within whatever appears of my forms.
it is as though He were in the forms of mine that appear.
علميmy knowledge صحيحsound وحاليand my state قدmay يكذبهbelie it
فانظرso look إلىto العلمknowledge لاdo not تنظرlook إلىto الحالthe state
My knowledge is sound, though my state may give it the lie;
My knowledge is sound, though my state may belie it.
so look to knowledge—do not look to the state.
So look to knowledge; do not look to the state.
الحقُthe Real عينيmy very essence بلاwithout شكdoubt ولستand I do not أرىsee
إلاexcept الذيthat which هوit فيin قيدٍa fetter وأغلالand shackles
The Real is my own eye, beyond all doubt; and I see
The Real is my very essence, without doubt, and I see nothing
nothing but what is confined by fetters and chains.
except what is in fetters and shackles.
والحقand the Real ليسis not لهfor Him مثلٌa likeness فكيفso how يرىis seen

And the Real has no likeness—how, then, can He be seen?
And the Real has no likeness—how, then, can He be seen?
This is what came to my hearing from the reciter.
This is what reached my hearing from the reciter.
إذاwhen يراناHe sees us فلاthen no شكَّdoubt يداخلناenters us
إنيindeed I أراهI see Him فإنيfor indeed I النائبُthe deputy الواليthe governor
If He sees us, He surely enters into us;
When He sees us, no doubt enters us:
I see Him—for I am the vicegerent invested with rule.
Indeed, I see Him, for I am the deputy, the governor.
