ألبستُ بنتَ زكيّ الدين خرقتنا

ألبستُ بنتَ زكيّ الدين خرقتنا

من بعد صحبتِها إياي بالأدبِ

I clothed Zaki al-Din’s daughter in our patched cloak,

I clothed the daughter of Zaki al-Din in our cloak,

after she had kept me company with proper courtesy.

After she had kept my company with due propriety.

تخلقتْ فصفتْ منها مواردها

تخلقتْ فصفتْ منها مواردها

وقُدستْ ذاتها عن أكثر الريبِ

وقُدستْ ذاتها عن أكثر الريبِ

She cultivated her character, and thus her wellsprings became clear;

She cultivated virtue, and the wellsprings arising from her grew clear,

she purified herself of most causes for doubt.

And her essence was sanctified, free of most doubts.

لما حويت علوماً أنت أكثرها

لما حويت علوماً أنت أكثرها

أخذتها عن مُربٍّ صادقٍ وأب

أخذتها عن مُربٍّ صادقٍ وأب

Since you encompassed branches of knowledge—and you are the greater part of them—

Now that you have acquired knowledge, most of which you

you received them from a truthful instructor and father.

Have received from a sincere mentor and father,

فلتُلبسِ البنتُ من شاءته خرقَتنا

فلتُلبسِ البنتُ من شاءته خرقَتنا

بعد التحققِ بالأسماء والنسبِ

بعد التحققِ بالأسماء والنسبِ

So let the daughter clothe whomever she wishes in our patched cloak,

Let the daughter clothe whomever she chooses in our cloak,

after verifying names and lineage—

After full realization of the Names and relations,

لكل إنس وجنٍّ بعد صحبتهم

لكل إنس وجنٍّ بعد صحبتهم

على الشروطِ التي أودعتها كتبي

على الشروطِ التي أودعتها كتبي

every human and jinn, once they have kept her company,

For humans and jinn alike, after they have kept her company,

under the conditions I have set down in my books.
