مخافة أن أنساه والله سائلي

I go hungry despite having means, for the sake of a hungry person,

For fear that I forget him, while God will question me.

وأطلب قرضاً اقتداء بخالقي

وأطلب قرضاً اقتداء بخالقي

وأرهن فيه للتأسي غلائلي

وأرهن فيه للتأسي غلائلي

And I seek a loan in imitation of my Creator,

And pledge my tunics for it, to follow the example.

واحفظ خلق الله دوني فإنني

واحفظ خلق الله دوني فإنني

على خلق الرحمن جمُّ الفضائل

على خلق الرحمن جمُّ الفضائل

And I protect God's creatures rather than myself, for I

Am rich in virtues, following the All-Merciful's character.

وقال لنا من كان يعرف أصلنا

وقال لنا من كان يعرف أصلنا

على ذا جرت أسلافكم في ألأوائل

على ذا جرت أسلافكم في ألأوائل

And one who knew our lineage said to us:

"Your forebears followed this way in ancient times."

فأخوالنا خولانُ والعمُّ طيء

فأخوالنا خولانُ والعمُّ طيء

بُناةُ العلى في كل عالٍ وسافلِ

بُناةُ العلى في كل عالٍ وسافلِ

For our maternal uncles are Khawlān, and our paternal uncle is Ṭayyiʾ,

Builders of glory among all, high and low.

يجودون إنعاماً على كلِّ نائل

يجودون إنعاماً على كلِّ نائل

وما الناس إلا بين مُعطٍ ونائل

وما الناس إلا بين مُعطٍ ونائل

They lavish favors upon every recipient,

And people are nothing but givers and receivers.

بحورٌ ذوو بأسٍ صَدورٌ أئمة

بحورٌ ذوو بأسٍ صَدورٌ أئمة

فلا ما در فيهم ولا عيَّ باقلِ

فلا ما در فيهم ولا عيَّ باقلِ

Oceans of bounty, men of might, chiefs and leaders—

Thus no Mādir is among them, nor Bāqil's inarticulacy.

يرون لمن يولونه يدَ نعمةٍ

يرون لمن يولونه يدَ نعمةٍ

عليهمُ هم أهل الندى والوسائل

عليهمُ هم أهل الندى والوسائل

They see those whom they favor as extending a hand of kindness

To them; they are people of generosity and good offices.
