لمعَflashed البرقُthe lightning عليناupon us عشاءًin the evening
لمعَ البرقُ علينا عشاءً
وكمثلِand like الصبحthe dawn ردَّanswered المساءُthe evening
وكمثلِ الصبح ردَّ المساءُ
Lightning flashed over us at evening,
Lightning flashed upon us in the evening.
and evening answered with the likeness of dawn.
And evening answered like the dawn.
وسطاand struck باسمin the name of حكيمa wise one فأخفىthen concealed
وسطا باسم حكيم فأخفى
زمنthe season of الصيفِsummer وأبدىand revealed الشتاءwinter
زمن الصيفِ وأبدى الشتاء
A smiling sage swept in and concealed
And it struck in a wise one's name, concealing
the season of summer, revealing winter.

زرعsowed الحكمةَwisdom فيin أرضِthe land of قومٍa people
زرع الحكمةَ في أرضِ قومٍ
وكساهاand clothed it منfrom سناهits radiance البهاءُsplendor
وكساها من سناه البهاءُ
He sowed wisdom in a people’s land,
It sowed wisdom in a people's land,
and clothed it in splendor from his radiance.
And splendor clothed it in its radiance.
