وشاهدهاand its beholder أبداًalways يسلمُremains safe
The divinity of creation is unknown,
The divinity of creation is unknown.
and whoever prostrates before it forever submits.
And its beholder is forever safe.
فإنfor if الكوائنexistent things عنهاfrom it تكنcome to be
وأفعالهاand its acts أبداًalways تحكمُrule
For all beings come into being from it,
For if existent things arise from it,
and its acts forever govern.
and its acts always rule,
فظاهرهاthen its outward aspect أبداًalways حاكمa ruler
وماand what خلفهاlies behind it أبداًalways يكتمis concealed
Its outward aspect forever rules,
then its outward aspect is always a ruler,
while what lies behind it is forever concealed.
and what lies behind it is always concealed.

And that which is its root
And indeed, the one who is its source
forever proceeds according to its accustomed ways.
always comes forward through his customary ways.
فأسماؤهso his names ماnot لهاfor them سطوةsway

Thus its names possess no sway
So his names have no sway
through its causes, while diversion is extinguished.
through his causes, and desire brings annihilation.
إذاwhen أرسلsends forth الغيثُthe rain انعامهits bounty
وأعقبهand follows it فيهمُamong them الصيلمُthe devastating calamity
When the rain sends forth its blessings
When the rain sends forth its bounty
and makes the devastating scourge follow them among the people,
and utter devastation follows it among them,
يصحُّproves true الذيthat which يدَّعىis claimed أنهthat he
إلهgod عبيدِكyour servants لاnot يحرمdeprives
then vindicated is the one who claims that he
what is claimed proves true: he is
is the god of Your servants, deprived of nothing.
the god of your servants, who withholds nothing.
فأينso where الدعاوىthe claims وسلطانهاand their authority
وأينand where الذيthat which كنتَyou used to بيabout me تزعمclaim
So where now are the claims and their authority?
So where are the claims and their authority?
And where is that by which you used to make your assertions?
And where is what you used to claim about me?
أراكI see you لماas for what كنتَyou had شيَّدتهyou erected it

I see that what you had erected—
I see you: what you had erected—
a lofty edifice for yourselves—has collapsed.
a lofty edifice for you—you tear down.
فماso not أهملواthey were neglected حينat the time ماwhen أمهلواthey were given respite
وجاءand came الرجوعُthe return ومنand who يندمfeels remorse
They were not neglected when they were granted respite;
So they were not neglected when they were granted respite,
the return has come—but who feels remorse?
and the return came—and who feels remorse?
فمنso whoever قامَpersists فيin غيِّهhis error تابعاًfollowing

Whoever persists in his error, following it,
So whoever persists in his error, following
is himself that offender.
his soul's desire—that is the sinner.

And whoever rises from his error, seeking
And whoever rises out of his error, seeking
guidance for his own soul—that one is the Muslim.
guidance for his soul—that is the Muslim.
