أرى نشأةَ الدنيا تشير إلى البلى
بماthrough what حملتهit has borne it منof سرورٍjoy ومنand of أذىharm
بما حملته من سرورٍ ومن أذى
I see the world's formation pointing toward decay,
I see the creation of this world pointing to decay
Through the joy and harm it has borne.
With what it carried of joy and harm
إذاwhen ماemphatic particle رأيتُI saw اللهGod أنشأbrought into being خلقهHis creation
إذا ما رأيتُ الله أنشأ خلقه
منfrom أعمالهHis works فرّقتI distinguished ماwhat بينbetween ذاthis وذاand that
من أعماله فرّقت ما بين ذا وذا
When I see God bring His creation into being
When I see God create His creatures
From His works, I distinguish between this and that.
Their deeds have separated what is between this and that
وتعلمand you know عندat الفرقِthe distinction أنكواحدthat you are one
وتعلم عند الفرقِ أنكواحد
ولاand do not تعتبرheed منone who قالsaid فشراfalsehood ومنand one who هذيbabbled
ولا تعتبر من قال فشرا ومن هذي
And you know, amid distinction, that you are one.
And learn when separated that you are one
And heed neither one who speaks falsehood nor one who babbles.
And do not consider who said evil and who was foolish
وكنand be بكتابِto the Book of اللهGod معتصماًholding fast ولاand do not
وكن بكتابِ الله معتصماً ولا
تحرِّفdistort كلامَthe speech of اللهGod عنfrom نصِّهits explicit wording إذاwhen
تحرِّف كلامَ الله عن نصِّه إذا
And hold fast to God's Book, and do not
And hold fast to God's Book and do not
Turn God's speech away from its explicit wording when
Distort God's Word from its text when
أتتكthey come to you بهاwith it الأرسالthe messengers تترىin succession وكنand be بهthrough Him
أتتك بها الأرسال تترى وكن به
علىin كلِّevery حالٍstate تتقيهyou fear Him معوّذاprotected
على كلِّ حالٍ تتقيه معوّذا
The messengers bring it to you in succession; and through Him be
Revelations come to you speculating and with it
In every state protected, fearing Him.
Be in every state fearing Him as an amulet
تكنyou will be عندamong أهلthe people of العلمknowledge شخصاًa person مقدَّساًsanctified
تكن عند أهل العلم شخصاً مقدَّساً
وعندand among أوليthose endowed with الألبابِunderstanding حَبْراa scholar وجِهبِذاand a discerning expert
وعند أولي الألبابِ حَبْرا وجِهبِذا
You will be, among the people of knowledge, a sanctified person,
Be with the people of knowledge a sanctified person
And among those of understanding, a scholar and a discerning expert.
And with the wise ones an insightful scholar
