إنَّindeed الذيthe One who أظهرmade manifest الأعيانthe entities لوif ظهراwere to appear
ماnot زادwould add حكماًa determination علىto الأمرthe matter الذيthat ظهراhas appeared
Indeed, He who made the entities appear—were He Himself to appear,
Indeed, were the One who made the entities manifest to appear,
He would add no further determination to what had already appeared.
He would add no determination to the matter already manifest.
هوHe الجليُّthe manifest الخفيُّthe hidden فيin تصرُّفهHis workings
فليسso not يظهرappears منهof Him غيرُother than ماwhat ظهراhas appeared
He is the Manifest, the Hidden, in all His working;
He is manifest and hidden in His workings;
nothing appears from Him except what has appeared.
So nothing appears of Him except what has appeared.
مُقدَّسsanctified الذاتِthe essence عنbeyond إدراكِcomprehension ماwhat ظهراhas appeared
لكنهbut He يهبُbestows الأرواحthe spirits والصوراand the forms
His Essence is sanctified beyond the apprehension of all that appears,
His essence is sanctified beyond the grasp of what has appeared,
for He bestows both spirits and forms.
Yet He bestows spirits and forms.
فكلُّso every صورةform روحٍof a spirit عينُthe very same as صورتِهHis form
وهوand He الذيthe One who عينdetermined الأفلاكِthe spheres والبشراand humankind
Thus every spirit’s form is that spirit’s very form,
So every spirit's form is His very form,
and He it is who determined the celestial spheres and humankind—
And He is the One who determined the spheres and humankind,
منfrom آدمَAdam خمرتfermented يداهHis two hands طينتهhis clay
بذاكfor that سمِّيwas called فيin ماwhat قدalready روىrelated بشراa human being
beginning with Adam, whose clay His hands kneaded.
From Adam, whose clay His two hands fermented;
For that, as has been related, he was named bashar, a human being.
For that he was called a human being, as the account relates.
لماwhen أتىHe came منfrom وراءbehind السّترthe veil كلمنيHe spoke to me
وماand not رأيتُI saw لهof Him عَيناًan actual presence ولاnor خبراtidings
When He came from behind the veil, He spoke to me,
When He came from behind the veil, He spoke to me,
yet I saw neither His very self nor any trace.
And I saw neither His actual presence nor any tidings of Him.
علمتI knew أنَّthat حجابيmy veil لمdid not يكنbe أحداًanyone
غيريother than me فلمso did not أتعبI weary الألبابَthe minds والفكراand thought
I knew then that my veil had been no one
I knew that my veil was no one
but myself; and so I did not weary minds and thought.
But myself; so I did not weary minds and thought.
فماthus never رأيتَyou saw وجودَthe existence الحقِّof the Real فيin أحدanyone
إلاexcept رأيتyou saw لهof Him فيin كونِهhis being أثراa trace
Never have I seen the existence of the Real in anyone
Thus you never saw the existence of the Real in anyone
without seeing, in that being, a trace of Him.
Without seeing a trace of Him in that person's being.
