الشيء مختلفُ الأحكام والنسب

والعينُ واحدةٌ فانظر إلى السبب

والعينُ واحدةٌ فانظر إلى السبب

A thing has differing determinations and relations.

Things have different rulings and relations,

And the essence is one; so consider the cause.

Yet the essence is one, so look to the cause,

واحكم عليه به إن كنتَ ذا نَصَفٍ

واحكم عليه به إن كنتَ ذا نَصَفٍ

فإنما العلمُ والتحقيق في النسب

فإنما العلمُ والتحقيق في النسب

And judge it by that, if you are fair-minded.

And judge it accordingly, if you are perceptive,

For knowledge and realization lie in relations alone.

For knowledge and verification lie in relations.

ألا ترى الله لا شيء يماثله

ألا ترى الله لا شيء يماثله

وقد تنزل للمخلوق بالنسب

وقد تنزل للمخلوق بالنسب

Do you not see that nothing resembles God,

Do you not see that nothing resembles Allah,

yet He has descended to the creature through relations?

Yet He relates to the creation in ways?

فقل إن له في خلقه نسَباً

فقل إن له في خلقه نسَباً

وهو التقي فأنا في الكدِّ والنَصَب

وهو التقي فأنا في الكدِّ والنَصَب

So say that He has relations within His creation.

So say that He has relations in His creation,

And He is the pious one, while I am in toil and weariness.

And He is the Holy, while I suffer toil and grief,

عسى أفوز به حتى يورثني

عسى أفوز به حتى يورثني

أسماءه كلها الحسنى بلا تَعَب

أسماءه كلها الحسنى بلا تَعَب

May I attain Him, so that He lets me inherit

Maybe I will succeed with Him until He grants me,

all His most beautiful names, without weariness.

All His good names without any toil.

فلا يرى الحق عيناً في مشاهدة

فلا يرى الحق عيناً في مشاهدة

من لا يرى الحقَّ في الأزلام والنصب

من لا يرى الحقَّ في الأزلام والنصب

So none directly beholds the Real in contemplation

So the Truth sees not an eye in witnessing,

who does not see the Real in divining arrows and stone idols.

One who sees not the Truth in hardships and grief.

فما رأيت مسمى في الوجودِ سوى

فما رأيت مسمى في الوجودِ سوى

ربّ البرية بالحاجات والطلب

ربّ البرية بالحاجات والطلب

So I have seen no named thing in existence except

I have not seen anything named in existence,

the Lord of creation, through needs and seeking.

Except the Lord of creation, with needs and wants,

وكلما قلت خلق قال خالقه

وكلما قلت خلق قال خالقه

ما ثَمَّ إلا أنا فاحذر من الرَّهَب

ما ثَمَّ إلا أنا فاحذر من الرَّهَب

And whenever I said, 'Creation,' its Creator said:

And whenever I said a "creation," its Creator said,

'There is nothing there but Me; so beware of dread.'

"None but I, so beware of monasticism."

الخلق حقٌ وعينُ الخلقِِ خالقه

الخلق حقٌ وعينُ الخلقِِ خالقه

فاثبت ولا تهرب إنَّ الجهلَ في الهرب

فاثبت ولا تهرب إنَّ الجهلَ في الهرب

Creation is the Real, and creation's very essence is its Creator.

Creation is true, and the eye of creation is its Creator,

So stand firm and do not flee; ignorance lies in flight.

So persist and do not flee, ignorance lies in fleeing.
