    If ants bring forth what belongs to the intellect,

    And bees acquire what belongs to God's servants,

    Then where is what has been said of people—that they

    Have an East before which glory and excellence bow?

    And that is only through the sciences; yet they possess

    Of knowledge what I have already mentioned, so all are equal.

    ولكنه الإنسان شيمته العدلُ

    So no real injustice belongs to God's servants;

    Yet he is the human being, whose disposition is justice.

    So there is only inclination; there is nothing else.

    And had there been no inclination, the root would not have been formed

    As branches of its own in every east and west,

    And what was said to be 'the shadow' would have vanished.

    So if the All-Merciful singles him out with a form from Himself,

    Divine in the cosmos, it is said to be the likeness.

    له قله المنعُ المحققُ والبذل

    And though he is a likeness, he cannot be an equal;

    To Him—say it—belong true withholding and bestowal.

    And the spirits serve him, prostrating because of knowledge,

    And messengers come to him from his Guardian.

    And support aids him, in meaning and form,

    When he is thus described, and the paths become clear.
