من قال في الله بتوحيده

من قال في الله بتوحيده

قد قال ما قال به المشركُ

قد قال ما قال به المشركُ

Whoever speaks of God by declaring Him one

Whoever speaks of God, affirming His oneness,

has said of Him what the polytheist says.

has said what the polytheist has professed.

وإن يقل أكثر من واحد

وإن يقل أكثر من واحد

فهو الذي بربه يشرك

فهو الذي بربه يشرك

But if he should say, “More than one,”

And if he says there is more than one,

then he is one who associates partners with his Lord.

then he is the one who associates partners with his Lord.

قد حار فيه أهل توحيده

قد حار فيه أهل توحيده

ثم مع الحيرة لا يترك

ثم مع الحيرة لا يترك

Those who affirm His oneness are bewildered in Him;

Those who affirm His oneness have become bewildered about Him;

yet even amid bewilderment, He is not forsaken.

yet, even amid bewilderment, He is not abandoned.

فاحفظ جميع القول فيه تكن

فاحفظ جميع القول فيه تكن

في ذاك من غيركم أدرك

في ذاك من غيركم أدرك

So preserve all that is said of Him, and you will be

So preserve all that is said about Him, and you will be

more discerning in this than your peers.

فإنه يقبل أقوالكم

فإنه يقبل أقوالكم

في ذاته إن كان لا يُدرك

في ذاته إن كان لا يُدرك

For He admits all your sayings

For He accepts your statements

concerning His Essence, though He cannot be apprehended.

وخلقه الأشياءَ ما بيننا

وخلقه الأشياءَ ما بيننا

محققٌ يدري به المدرِك

محققٌ يدري به المدرِك

His creation of the things here among us

And His creation of the things in our midst

is established—the perceiver knows Him through it.

فالكلُّ لله على ما ترى

فالكلُّ لله على ما ترى

عين الذي قيل هو المدرك

عين الذي قيل هو المدرك

For all belongs to God, as you see,

Thus all is God's, as you see,

and is the very thing said to be apprehended.

and is the very thing said to be perceived.

وكلّ شيء نحن فيه به

وكلّ شيء نحن فيه به

فذلك الشيءُ لنا مدرك

فذلك الشيءُ لنا مدرك

And every thing in which we abide through Him—

And everything in which we are through Him—

that thing is apprehensible to us.

then that thing is perceptible to us.
