يا أيها المؤمنون أوفوا

يا أيها المؤمنون أوفوا

فإنكم في الذراع وقفُ

فإنكم في الذراع وقفُ

O believers, keep faith!

O believers, fulfill

For you are held within the arm;

For you are standing on the verge

زينتمُ إذ كتبتوه

زينتمُ إذ كتبتوه

لذاك أنتم عليه وقف

لذاك أنتم عليه وقف

you adorned it when you wrote it.

You adorned it when you wrote it down

For that reason, you are bound to it.

Thus you stand by it

إنْ كان في قلبكم سواكم

إنْ كان في قلبكم سواكم

فهو لما يحتويه ظَرف

فهو لما يحتويه ظَرف

If there is anything other than you in your heart,

If there is in your hearts other than Him

then it is a vessel for what it contains.

Then it is for what it contains, a vessel

والحق بي قد أشار نحوي

والحق بي قد أشار نحوي

فقلتُ ماذا فقال لطف

فقلتُ ماذا فقال لطف

And the Real has, through me, pointed toward me.

And the truth has gestured towards me

So I said, “What?” He said: “Kindness

So I said what? He said grace

مني بمن كان لي جليساً

مني بمن كان لي جليساً

فيه معان وفيه ظرف

فيه معان وفيه ظرف

from me to whoever was my companion.”

From me to whoever was a companion to me

In him are meanings, and in him is wit.

In whom there is meaning and in whom there is wit

ما كنتُ أجني عليَّ إلا

ما كنتُ أجني عليَّ إلا

حتى ترى العينُ كيف تغفو

حتى ترى العينُ كيف تغفو

I would do myself harm only

I would not wrong myself except

so that the eye might see how it dozes.

Until the eye sees how it closes

فإنه سيِّدٌ كريمٌ

فإنه سيِّدٌ كريمٌ

لذاك نفسي إليه تهفو

لذاك نفسي إليه تهفو

For he is a generous master;

For he is a generous master

that is why my soul yearns for him.

Thus my soul yearns for him
