What ails a people, when I reflect upon them,

that they can scarcely understand any speech?

They are in the Eternal's very essence in every state,

    seeking existence from Him eagerly.

So they spread His knowledge to persons—

who have no knowledge of it—scattering it abroad.

I said to the ʿĪsawī, 'You are attentive

to what I said'; then he replied, 'Kamīthā.'
