And after it, the secret of purification is clear,
After him the secret of purity is clear
easy for the people of wakefulness and intelligence.
To the people of wakefulness and intelligence
فكمfor many a طاهرٍpure person لمnot يتَّصِفbe characterized بطهارةٍby purity
إذاwhen جاورdwelt beside البحرthe sea اللدنيّof divinely bestowed knowledge واحتمىand sought shelter
For many a pure person has not been endowed with purity,
So how many pure ones have not been characterized by purity
when he dwells beside the sea of divine knowledge and takes shelter.
When they dwelled by the eternal sea and took shelter

And even if he dived in the bitterly salty sea all his life,
And if they dived into the turbulent sea all their lives
and did not vanish from the sea of Reality, he would not become pure.
And did not divert from the sea of reality however much they purified

When a person cleanses himself with stones an odd number of times, he has walked
When a person holds back and walks
along the white Sunnah of those who went before.
On the white path of those who passed
فإنfor if شفعmade even-numbered استجمارَهhis stone-cleansing عادhe returned خاسراًa loser
وفارقand parted from منthe one whom يهواهhe loves him منfrom باطنِthe depths of الرَّدىruin
For if he makes his stone-cleansing even-numbered, he returns a loser,
But if he combines his holding back with returning, he loses
and parts from the one he loves, from the depths of ruin.
And leaves whom he loves from the essence of depravity

And if he washes both hands an odd number of times, yet remains
And if he washes his hands, holding back as he used to
stingy with what he loves, in his original nature,
Stingy with what he loves in the nature of the first days

إذاif لمnot يلحgleam سيفthe sword of التوكُّلreliance on God ينتضىis unsheathed
then no dyed palm or wrist has been washed,
So the washing of the hands of one with bloodstained and dirty hands does not count
if the sword of reliance on God does not gleam as it is unsheathed.
If the sword of reliance does not cling to him, sharpened

When a newborn is born with his hand clenched,
When a newborn grasps his fist
that is a sign of miserliness and hoarding, O young man.
That's evidence of stinginess and hoarding, O lad

And he opens it at death, announcing
And opens them up in death, informing
the abandonment of what it acquired in the abode of this lowly world.
Of leaving what he collected in the abode of life

When the washing of the face is sound, his modesty is sound,
If the washing of the face is sound, his shyness is sound
and he may rightly lift the veils whenever he wishes.
And it is valid for him to lift the veils whenever he wants

And if water does not touch the hair of his head
nor do his two hands fall upon the expanse of his nape,
Nor do his palms fall into the field of the back of his head

then he has not broken free of the bondage of servitude that
He is not rid of the meekness of servanthood
other beings bring about in the abode of otherness.
Which strangers fulfil in the abode of equality

And if he does not see the Footstool in the washing of his foot,
And if he does not see the footstool in washing his feet
the meaning of purity at once contradicts itself and vanishes.
It contradicts the meaning of purity for the moment and disappears

When a person rinses his mouth but is not

Innocent of pretense and openly declaring what he claimed

Inhaling what he smelled of his connection
and many a one blowing water from his nose has perished through an abundance of ruin.
And snorting which led to much depravity

His two ear canals never cease to be purified by attentive listening
His nostrils do not cease to purify hearing
to the best of sayings; be content—and he followed.
To the best words, so be content and follow
