قَسَماً بسورةِ العصر

قَسَماً بسورةِ العصر

إنه الإنسانُ في خسرِ

إنه الإنسانُ في خسرِ

I swear by Surah al-‘Asr:

By the surah of Al-'Asr

Indeed, the human being is in loss,

Mankind is certainly in loss

غير من أوصوا نفوسهمُ

غير من أوصوا نفوسهمُ

بينهم بالحقِّ والصبر

بينهم بالحقِّ والصبر

Except those who counseled their own souls

Except for those who have advised themselves

Among themselves to truth and patience.

With truth and patience

فهمُ القوم الذين نَجوا

فهمُ القوم الذين نَجوا

من عذابِ الله في القبر

من عذابِ الله في القبر

So they are the people who were saved

For they are the ones who have attained salvation

From God's punishment in the grave,

From the punishment of Allah in the grave

ثم في يومِ النشور إذا

ثم في يومِ النشور إذا

جمعوا للعرش في الحشرِ

جمعوا للعرش في الحشرِ

Then on the Day of Resurrection, when
