هي لمّا لبستُها سبَّحتْ

هي لمّا لبستُها سبَّحتْ

حسبي الله تعالى وكفى

حسبي الله تعالى وكفى

When I donned her, she glorified God:

When I donned it, it glorified

God, exalted is He, is sufficient for me, and He suffices.

God Almighty suffices me

وأتتْ تلثم نعلي خدمةً

وأتتْ تلثم نعلي خدمةً

ولقد كان لنا فيه شفا

ولقد كان لنا فيه شفا

And she came kissing my sandal in service.

And she came to kiss my slippers as a servant

And indeed, in it there was healing for us.

Indeed it had a healing effect on us

ولقد عانقتُ منها غُصناً

ولقد عانقتُ منها غُصناً

يخجلُ الغصن إذا ما انعطفا

يخجلُ الغصن إذا ما انعطفا

And indeed I embraced a branch of hers,

And I embraced a branch from it

that shames the branch whenever it bends.

The branch feels shy when bent

وارتشفنا ريقةً مسكينةً

وارتشفنا ريقةً مسكينةً

تخجل الشَّهدَ إذا ما ارتشفا

تخجل الشَّهدَ إذا ما ارتشفا

And we sipped a humble little drop of saliva,

We sipped a sweet draught

that shames honey whenever it is sipped.

That would make honey feel shy when sipped

ما أتينا محرَماً نحذره

ما أتينا محرَماً نحذره

بل أتينا فيه ما الله عفا

بل أتينا فيه ما الله عفا

We committed no forbidden act that we fear.

We did not commit a forbidden act to be wary of

Rather, in it we did what God has pardoned.

But we did that which Allah has pardoned

فانظروا المعنى الذي أرمزه

فانظروا المعنى الذي أرمزه

في كلامي تجدوه في الوفا

في كلامي تجدوه في الوفا
