يطوفُcircumambulates بالبيتِaround the House منone who يدينis devoted لهto Him
يطوفُ بالبيتِ من يدين له
لكنهbut he خارجٌoutside عنof البشرِhumankind
لكنه خارجٌ عن البشرِ
One devoted to Him circles the House,
He circumambulates the House for the one to whom he is devoted
Yet he is outside the human race.
Yet he is apart from people
كأنهas though he were فيin طوافهhis circumambulation جملٌa camel
كأنه في طوافه جملٌ
يخبطblunders along لاnot يلتويturns aside علىtoward الحجرthe Stone
يخبط لا يلتوي على الحجر
As though, in his circling, he were a camel,
As if in his circumambulation he is a camel
Blundering along, not turning toward the Stone.
Bumping without twisting around the Black Stone
مثلُlike حُنينHunayn وقدand indeed رآهsaw him فتىa young man
مثلُ حُنين وقد رآه فتى
منamong أعلمthe most learned الناسpeople منfrom بنيthe sons of عمرUmar
من أعلم الناس من بني عمر
Like Hunayn; a young man had seen him,
Like the yearning Hunayn saw a young man
One of the most learned of men, from Banu Umar.
Among the most knowledgeable of people, of the clan of Umar
فقالso he said هذاthis الذيwhat أقولI hold بهto it
فقال هذا الذي أقول به
فيin حقِّregard to هذاthis الأنيسthe companion فازدجرso he took heed
في حقِّ هذا الأنيس فازدجر
So he said, "This is what I maintain
So he said this is what I say
Concerning this companion"; then he took heed.
Regarding this beloved so restrain yourself
لكننيbut I قدindeed وجدتhave found معذرةan excuse
لكنني قد وجدت معذرة
كانhe was عليهاfollowing it فيin سالفthe earlier part of العمرlife
كان عليها في سالف العمر
But I have found an excuse:
But I have found an excuse
He had been accustomed to it earlier in life.
On which in the past he relied
كانthere was لهfor him مقطعa tract of land يطوفhe circles بهaround it
كان له مقطع يطوف به
ومنand whoever أتىpractices عادةa habit فلمthen did not يمرpass beyond
ومن أتى عادة فلم يمر
He had a tract of land he used to circle,
He had a spot he would circumambulate
And whoever follows a habit does not pass beyond it.
And whoever comes by habit does not pass
