يُذَكِّرُنيreminds me حالُthe state of الشَبيبَةِyouth وَالشَرخِand youthful prime
حَديثاًa conversation لَناof ours بَينَbetween الحَديثَةِal-Haditha وَالكَرخِand al-Karkh
The days of youth and its prime remind me
Of a conversation we had between al-Haditha and al-Karkh.
فَقَلَّتso they seemed few لِنَفسيto my soul فيهِin it خَمسينَfifty حِجَّةًyears
وَقَدand already صِرتُI have become مِنfrom طولِthe length of التَفَكُّرِreflection كَالفَرخِlike a fledgling
So fifty years in it seemed few to my soul,
And through long reflection I have become like a fledgling.

وَتَذكُرُand recalls ليfor me حالَthe state of الشَبيبَةِyouth وَالشَرخِand youthful prime
It reminds me of the environs of Salʿ and Hajir,
And recalls for me the days of youth and its prime,
وَسَوقَand driving المَطاياthe riding camels مُنجِداًheading toward Najd ثُمَّthen مُتهِماًheading toward Tihamah

And driving the riding camels toward Najd, then Tihamah,
And my striking fire for them in the wilderness with markh wood.
