إذا رأيتَ مسيئاً يبتغي ضَرراً

إذا رأيتَ مسيئاً يبتغي ضَرراً

فدارِهِ ثم لا تُظهر له خَبَرا

فدارِهِ ثم لا تُظهر له خَبَرا

If you see a wrongdoer seeking harm,

When you see one who wishes you harm

then treat him tactfully; afterward, disclose no news to him.

Leave him be, make no affair known to him

وادفعْ أذاه بما توليه من حُسنٍ

وادفعْ أذاه بما توليه من حُسنٍ

وامنُن عليه ولا تُعلم به بشرا

وامنُن عليه ولا تُعلم به بشرا

And ward off his harm with the kindness you show him,

Repel his injury with your goodness

and bestow favor on him, telling no one of it.

Bestow favor on him, let no man know

فإن ذلك إكسيرٌ وقوّتُه

فإن ذلك إكسيرٌ وقوّتُه

إنَّ تقلبَ العين والأجساد والصورا

إنَّ تقلبَ العين والأجساد والصورا

For that is an elixir, and its power,

This is an elixir, of strength proven

indeed transforming the essence, bodies, and forms,

For eyes and bodies and faces to turn

يرجعْ عدوَّك صدّيقاً فتأمنه

يرجعْ عدوَّك صدّيقاً فتأمنه

ولا تخف منه إضراراً ولا ضررا

ولا تخف منه إضراراً ولا ضررا

turns your enemy into a true friend, so you can trust him.

Your enemy returns a friend, trust him

And fear neither injury nor harm from him.

Neither harm nor injury need you fear

وما يلقاها إلا صابرٌ وله

وما يلقاها إلا صابرٌ وله

حظٌّ من العلمِ لما أمعَن النظرا

حظٌّ من العلمِ لما أمعَن النظرا

And only a patient person attains this, and he has

None but the patient meet this, of knowledge

a share of knowledge, for he has reflected deeply.
