ما اِسمٌ إِذا صَحَّفوهُ كانَ مجلَبَةً
لِلهَمِّof grief أَوor صَحَّفواthey changed the dots of مَعكوسَهُits reversed form فَكَذاthen likewise
لِلهَمِّ أَو صَحَّفوا مَعكوسَهُ فَكَذا
What name, if they change its dots, becomes a source
What name when misspelled becomes collecting
of grief—or, if they change the dots of its reverse, likewise—
Sorrows, or misspell its opposite the same
وَإِنand if أُقِرَّit was retained عَلىaccording to مَفهومِthe meaning صيغَتِهِits form
وَإِن أُقِرَّ عَلى مَفهومِ صيغَتِهِ
وَلَمand did not يُخِلَّinterfere بِهِwith it التَغييرُalteration كانَit was أَذىharm
وَلَم يُخِلَّ بِهِ التَغييرُ كانَ أَذى
and, if left with the meaning its form conveys,
If kept to the meaning of its morphology
with no alteration affecting it, is harm?
Unchanged by alterations, it causes harm
ماno فيconcerning نِفاقِhypocrisy أَبيAbu (father of) سُفيانَSufyan مُختَلَفٌdisagreement
ما في نِفاقِ أَبي سُفيانَ مُختَلَفٌ
قَدindeed كانَhe was أَوفىmost abundant قُرَيشٍQuraysh لِلنَّبِيِّto the Prophet أّذىin harm
قَد كانَ أَوفى قُرَيشٍ لِلنَّبِيِّ أّذى
There is no disagreement about Abu Sufyan’s hypocrisy.
No hypocrisy in Abu Sufyan contains dispute
Indeed, he was the most harmful of Quraysh to the Prophet.
He was the most faithful of Quraysh causing harm to the Prophet
وَكانَand he was رَأسَthe head العمىblindness فيin جاهِلِيَّتِهِhis pre-Islamic ignorance
وَكانَ رَأسَ العمى في جاهِلِيَّتِهِ
فَصارَthen he became فيin مُقلَةِthe eye الدينِthe faith الحَنيفِupright قَذىa mote
فَصارَ في مُقلَةِ الدينِ الحَنيفِ قَذى
And he was the head of blindness in his days of ignorance,
He was the height of blindness in his ignorance
then he became a mote in the eye of the upright faith.
So he became the pupil of the Hanif religion, a speck
