رافِعُone who raises قَدريmy standing ماwhat بالُهُthe matter with him خَفَضَهhe lowered it
Uthman’s Qur’an codex cried out in rage:
The scrolls of Osman roared with rage
The one who raised my standing—why has he lowered it?
Raising my worth—why did he lower it?
الزَنكَلونِيُّAl-Zankaluni صارَbecame يَخدِمُنيserves me
ياO رَبِّmy Lord عَجِّلhasten بِالفَأرِwith the mice وَالأَرَضَهand the termites
Al-Zankaluni now serves me.
The Zangaloni has come to serve me!
O my Lord, bring the mice and termites quickly!
O Lord, hasten the mouse and the crumbler!
وَاللَهِby God ماnot بيafflicting me اِنحِطاطُdecline مَنزِلَتيmy standing

By God, it is not my loss of standing that troubles me,
By God, my stature hasn’t diminished—
but only the gloating of the Rafidah.
It’s just the gloating of the rejectionists.
