ياO مَليكَking الدُنياthe world الَّذيwho أَعظَمَmagnified اللـGod (first part)
يا مَليكَ الدُنيا الَّذي أَعظَمَ اللـ
ـهُGod (completion) بِتَأييدِby strengthening عِزِّهِhis might سُلطانَهhis dominion
ـهُ بِتَأييدِ عِزِّهِ سُلطانَه
O king of the world, for whom God has magnified
O king of the world whom Allah has empowered
his dominion by strengthening his might.
With the support of His mighty rule
أَناI أَشكوcomplain إِلَيكَto you جَورَthe oppression of رَقيعٍa shameless fool
أَنا أَشكو إِلَيكَ جَورَ رَقيعٍ
لَقَّبوهُthey nicknamed him الصَفعانَthe oft-slapped one تاجَcrown الخَزانَهthe treasury
لَقَّبوهُ الصَفعانَ تاجَ الخَزانَه
I complain to you of a shameless fool's oppression;
I complain to you of the injustice of a contemptible man
they dubbed him—the oft-slapped one—'Crown of the Treasury.'
They titled him Safwan, the crown of treasuries
عَدمَhe lacked العَقلَreason وَالمُروءَةَand honorable conduct وَالإِحـand benevolence (first part)
عَدمَ العَقلَ وَالمُروءَةَ وَالإِحـ
ـسانَbenevolence (completion) وَالدينَand religion وَالحَياand modesty وَالأَمانَهand trustworthiness
ـسانَ وَالدينَ وَالحَيا وَالأَمانَه
He lacks reason, honor, and benevolence,
He lacks reason, chivalry, compassion, religion, life, and integrity
religion, modesty, and trustworthiness.
And harbors villainy, vulgarity, malice, ignorance, treachery, and betrayal
وَحَوىand he harbored اللُؤمَbaseness وَالرقاعَةَand shameless folly وَالخِـand vileness (first part)
وَحَوى اللُؤمَ وَالرقاعَةَ وَالخِـ
ـسَةَvileness (completion) وَالجَهلَand ignorance وَالخَناand obscenity وَالخِيانَهand treachery
ـسَةَ وَالجَهلَ وَالخَنا وَالخِيانَه
And he harbors baseness, shameless folly, and vileness,
That pimp claims I am his lowly uncle
ignorance, obscenity, and treachery.
He went too far insulting and disgracing me
يَزعُمُhe claims التيسُthe billy goat أَنَّنيthat I خالُهُhis maternal uncle الأَدthe nearest (first part)
يَزعُمُ التيسُ أَنَّني خالُهُ الأَد
نىnearest (completion) تَناهىhe went to extremes فيin السَبِّverbal abuse ليdirected at me وَالإِهانَهand humiliation
نى تَناهى في السَبِّ لي وَالإِهانَه
The billy goat claims that I am his nearest maternal uncle;
They alleged he protects money
he has gone to extremes in abusing and humiliating me.
And is a trustee, I said, "Hush you scoundrels!"
زَعَمواthey claimed أَنَّهُthat he حَفيظٌa vigilant guardian عَلىover الماthe money (first part)
زَعَموا أَنَّهُ حَفيظٌ عَلى الما
لِmoney (completion) أَمينٌtrustworthy قُلتُI said اسكُتيbe silent (addressing a woman) ياO فُلانَهso-and-so (female)
لِ أَمينٌ قُلتُ اسكُتي يا فُلانَه
They claimed that he was a vigilant guardian of
the money, trustworthy; I said, 'Be silent, Madam So-and-so!'
