شَكاcomplained شِعريmy verse إِلَيَّto me وَقالَand said تَهجوyou satirize
شَكا شِعري إِلَيَّ وَقالَ تَهجو
بِمِثليwith the likes of me عرضَhonor ذاthis الكَلبِthe dog اللَئيمِthe vile
بِمِثلي عرضَ ذا الكَلبِ اللَئيمِ
My verse complained to me and said, "Do you satirize
My poetry complained to me and said you satirize
this vile dog's honor with the likes of me?"
One like me, O vile dog!
فَقُلتُso I said لَهُto it تَسَلَّtake comfort فَرُبَّfor many a نَجمٍstar
فَقُلتُ لَهُ تَسَلَّ فَرُبَّ نَجمٍ
هَوىfell فيin إِثرِpursuit of شَيطانٍa devil رَجيمِaccursed
هَوى في إِثرِ شَيطانٍ رَجيمِ
So I told it, "Take comfort, for many a star
So I said to it, "Have patience, for many a star
has fallen in pursuit of an accursed devil."
Has fallen while following a damned devil."
