فيin مَجلِسٍa gathering فَوقَabove العَليمِthe learned man الفاضِلِthe virtuous
Indeed, when an ignorant man takes the foremost seat through wealth,
When an ignorant man presides, though rich,
in a gathering above the learned, virtuous man,
O'er the supremely wise, and great, and good,
فَهوَthen he المُؤَخَّرُthe one ranked last فيin المَحافِلِthe assemblies كُلِّهاall of them
كَتَقَدُّمِlike the prior placement of المَفعولِthe grammatical object فَوقَbefore الفاعِلِthe grammatical subject
he is still last in rank in every assembly,
He takes the lowest place in every court,
like the object placed before the subject.
As subject rules above the prince he should.
