أَبُثُّكَI confide to you ياO صَفِيَّSafi الدينِal-Din حاليmy plight
وَلاand not يُشكىis complaint made إِلىto غَيرِother than الكِرامِthe generous
I confide my plight to you, O Safi al-Din.
And complaints are made to none but the generous.
أَيَقتُلُنيwill it kill me? ظَمايَmy thirst وَأَنتَwhile you جاريmy neighbor
وَكَيفَand how يَبيتُspends the night جارُneighbor of البَحرِthe sea ظاميthirsty
Will my thirst kill me while you are my neighbor?
And how can the sea’s neighbor spend the night thirsty?
