كحلُ الشَريفِ مُقارِبٌ

كَم ناظِرٍ قَد أَغمَضا

كَم ناظِرٍ قَد أَغمَضا

The Sharif's kohl is passable—

how many an eye it has closed!

تَلقى الدَوا بِيَمينِهِ

تَلقى الدَوا بِيَمينِهِ

وَشِمالُهُ تُعطي القَضا

وَشِمالُهُ تُعطي القَضا

You find medicine in his right hand,

and his left hand dispenses death.
