لِأُختَينِupon two sisters صَفراوَينِboth yellow أَصبَحتَyou have become واطِئاًtreading upon
لِأُختَينِ صَفراوَينِ أَصبَحتَ واطِئاً
وَفيand in جَمعِكَyour joining together الأُختَينِthe two sisters إِثمُكَyour sin وَالعارُand disgrace
وَفي جَمعِكَ الأُختَينِ إِثمُكَ وَالعارُ
I have come to tread upon two yellow sisters;
You have come to tread upon two yellow sisters;
and in coupling you two sisters together lie your sin and shame.
And in your joining the two sisters lie your sin and disgrace.
مَتىwhenever تَنفَرِدis alone إِحداهُماone of them فَهيَthen she دَهرَهاall her life
مَتى تَنفَرِد إِحداهُما فَهيَ دَهرَها
مُقَصّرَةٌfalling short عَمّاof what تُريدُyou desire وَتَختارُand you choose
مُقَصّرَةٌ عَمّا تُريدُ وَتَختارُ
Whenever either one goes alone, throughout her days
Whenever one of them is alone, she is forever
she falls short of what she desires and chooses.
Falling short of what you desire and choose.
كَساclothed شَعَرٌhair وَجهَيهِماtheir two faces وَعَلَيهِماand upon them both
كَسا شَعَرٌ وَجهَيهِما وَعَلَيهِما
فُروعٌtresses بَدَتhave appeared يَسرَحنthey roam freely وَالخلقُand creation أَطوارُvaried forms
فُروعٌ بَدَت يَسرَحن وَالخلقُ أَطوارُ
Hair clothed both their faces, and upon them
Hair has clothed their two faces, and upon them
branches appeared, roaming free—for creation takes many forms.
Tresses have appeared, roaming free—and creation has many forms.
