لَوif كُنتُI were أُهديto offer as a gift لِمَولاناto our lord مَشاكِلَهُthings matching him
لَو كُنتُ أُهدي لِمَولانا مَشاكِلَهُ
لَكُنتُthen I would أُهديoffer as a gift إِلَيهِto him السَهلَthe plain وَالجَبَلاand the mountain
لَكُنتُ أُهدي إِلَيهِ السَهلَ وَالجَبَلا
Were I to offer the Fates his equals,
If I were to offer our lord gifts worthy of him,
I would offer him plain and mountain.
I would offer him the plain and the mountain.
وَإِنَّماand only العَبدُthe servant أَهدىoffered as a gift كُنهَthe full extent of قُدرَتِهِhis ability
وَإِنَّما العَبدُ أَهدى كُنهَ قُدرَتِهِ
وَالنَملُand the ants يُعذَرُare excused فيfor القدرِthe amount الَّذيthat حَمَلاthey carried
وَالنَملُ يُعذَرُ في القدرِ الَّذي حَمَلا
But the servant offers only the utmost of his ability,
Yet the servant has offered only the full measure of his means,
and the ant is excused for the amount it carries.
and the ants are excused for the amount they have carried.
