وَماand what أُنثىfemale وَيَنكِحُهاand weds her أَخوهاher brother
وَما أُنثى وَيَنكِحُها أَخوها
بِعَقدٍby a contract وَهوَand it is حِلٌّlawful مُستَباحُpermitted
بِعَقدٍ وَهوَ حِلٌّ مُستَباحُ
And what female does her brother wed,
A sister is not married by her brother
By a contract, while it is lawful and permitted?
By contract, though such be deemed legitimate
رَآهُdeemed it مَعشَرٌa group مِنّاamong us مُباحاًpermissible
رَآهُ مَعشَرٌ مِنّا مُباحاً
وَفيand upon أَعناقِهِمtheir necks ذاكَthat النِكاحُmarriage
وَفي أَعناقِهِم ذاكَ النِكاحُ
A group among us deemed it permissible,
Among some of us such is seen permissible
And that marriage rests upon their necks.
Yet on their necks lies that marriage like a weight
