And one with a bewitching gaze and sweet, dusky lips,
The charmer of glances, beautiful and bright,
sweet in his swaying, perfect in beauty,
Sweetly curved, perfect in grace and might,

walks, and beside him is a peer like him
He walked as a like one walked with him,
in appearance, bearing, and age.
In form and mien and years the same.
قُلتُI said لَهُto him ماwhat اِسمُكَyour name قُلtell ليme فَقَدfor indeed

I said to him, 'What is your name? Tell me, for
I said “Tell me your name”, for you have cast
you have bewitched me.' He said, 'Go away from me.
Your spell on me. He said “Turn away”.
تَبغيyou seek سِوىother than اِسميmy name وَتُوَرّيand conceal your intent بِهِwith it
فاتَكَhas eluded you ماwhat تَطلُبُهُyou seek it مِنّيfrom me
You seek something other than my name, using it as a cover;
You seek but my name, and hide with it,
what you seek from me has eluded you.
What you desire of me, now astray.
أَخفَيتُهُI hid it عَنكَfrom you وَلكِنَّهُand yet it

I hid it from you, and yet it
I hid it from you, but it appears
is revealed in what beguiled you in my eyelid.'
In what enticed you of my eyes’ shine.
قُلتُI said فَهذاthen this one ماwhat اسمُهُhis name قالَhe said ليto me

I said, 'Then this one—what is his name?' He said to me,
I said “This then’s his name”. He said to me
'Some of what you have already said suffices.'
“Part of what you have said will suffice.”
